MORE FANCY FOLD CARDS

This is the first card with my new SU Sprig Punch, and I think I'll be giving it a lot of use.  These double gate cards are fun to make!  You just have to remember to use adhesive only on one side. (Ask me how I know...)

The flower makes use of layered SU punches that are sponged and stacked with glue dots and embellishments on top..

This second card is a creative mistake with the folding.  It was to be another double gate fold card, but I cut off too much on the one side.  Instead of throwing it away or using the paper for scrap, I folded back one side and kept the right side triangular. 

The flower and sprigs are mounted to the left side.  I tucked the right flap between the petals to keep it closed.

I plan to add a greeting when I'm ready to send it.


TIP:  My "rule" for how many scraps to keep, I save only those that are bigger than an index card.  It used to be business card size, but I still had too many to keep.

DOUBLE-PLEATED FOLD CARD--Snowflakes

The more double-pleated cards I make, the easier they get.  I plan to use this for a January birthday.  The greeting will go to the right of the large snowflake.

This design and dsp would make a good masculine card.

DOUBLE PLEATED HARVEST CARD

One of the birthday cards I received last month inspired me to revisit this technique. 

After watching Frenchie on YouTube, I was able to put this together.  (It's not as easy as it looks, for me anyway.)  When it comes to doing the pleats, it gets a little tricky--but it was fun!

GATE FOLD NOTE

BIRTHDAY Z-FOLD

This clean and simple z-fold card was a  quick one.  After folding back the front, I ran the flap through my Sizzix in an embossing folder.  The greeting is a large one (Altenew) which makes the message stand out.  The flower at the bottom is attached with double dimensionals to serve as a way to keep the front from popping open.

Now that I'm posting it, I see that it could have used a little extra embellishment in the upper left corner.

GETTING AHEAD

Now that I'm done with February birthdays and Valentines, I'm on to March and Easter!  I'll be posting the cards I've made soon.  Meanwhile, this birthday card was inspired by a paper pad I've had in my collection literally for years.  (Sorry for the faded look on the bottom.)

DETAIL GATE CARD

When I saw this thinlit in the SU catalog, I

knew it would make a nice non-Halloween gate card.  

In fact, this first card is already in the mail!

Inside reads "May your day bloom with

wonderful surprises" and features flowers from my

peg stamp collection for a Springtime look.  

Spring won't be coming to New Jersey for a couple

of months yet.  Meanwhile, it's sunny and warm in my

stamping tower as we await the warmer weather.  Even our
two cats have cabin fever but shrink back from the
cold when we open the door.

SHADOW BOX CARD

I haven't made a shadow box card in quite awhile, so

 I decided to use this one for one of the classes in my card

making elective at Bible study this Spring.  (Great way to 

use up some of the pink papers in my stash...lol)

Although there are a lot of steps to this card,

it's fun to make, and their

recipients will love it! 

 

ANOTHER CHRISTMAS CARD

As I was making cards with this design (which I learned how to do in Cyndy's technique class) I couldn't help but think of the many Christmas carols that have been written in celebration of our Saviour's birth.

This card technique is simple, so I am including the dimensions of the dsp used here in case you want to try it.

Cut squares of dsp at:  3 1/4", 2 7/8", 2 3/8", 1 7/8" and 1 1/2"; then cut them in half.  You will have two rectangles of each size for two cards.  After folding down the top right and left corners of each strip, mount them on your embossed panel as shown, starting at the top.  Add a star and either a tree stand or greeting at the bottom.  I used a Crumb Cake card base and one layer of black cardstock underneath.

INTERLOCKING GATE CARD

The main thing to remember about any gate card is to put your adhesive on one side only.  With an interlocking one, you need to add adhesive on the opposite side of each piece.

The chocolate bon-bon here is used to keep the card closed.  I made it with the fox punch and trimmed the bottom--otherwise, it looks like a hat.  If you don't have brown glitter paper, it also looks chocolate-y with gold Wink-of-Stella on brown cs.

Of course, you have to be careful not to leave chocolate finger prints on this card while you're putting it together!

AUTUMN BIRTHDAY

The hardest part of this card was photographing it!

The leaves are finally turning color around here--much later than usual, but well worth the wait.  I think this card captures the colors well.

The two front leaves are attached with a glue dot for the yellow and a dimensional for the green.  The second two are attached to the tops of acetate strips with glue dots.  The last two are attached to the back panel.  My greeting and signature are on a panel that doesn't show when the card is standing.

HYDRANGEA Z-FOLD

The gold foil paper really makes this card stand out.  I resisted the temptation to add a lot of embellishments, except for the gold twine bow and the purple button.

It's  been so hot here lately, that spending time stamping in the tower has been even more of a pleasure.  This set is really fun to play with!

Z-FOLD WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

This card is on its way to a friend whose husband is dealing with some health issues.  Since it is a Z-fold, there is not a lot of room to write.

However, it doesn't take a lot of words to cheer or encourage someone.  Just sending a card you make yourself says even more than the words in the card.  Having been on the receiving end of cards from friends who let me know they were thinking of me during a difficult time was such a blessing.

VERTICAL BIRTHDAY

This folio card was in my stash already scored, so I used it for a topiary birthday card.  The left side is taped down, and the dsp overs the fold.

After stamping the potted tree in a soft green, I used plain ol' ordinary markers to color over it.  I tapped on the green, colored the trunk and pot, then added the shadow.  After mounting the image to a green rectangle, I popped it on the card front with dimensionals.

For the greeting, I made a little banner from scrap and attached it at the top.  For embellishment, I added several tiny clear gems on the tree.

HOW DID THAT HAPPEN???

Suddenly, I find myself being the grandmother of a high school graduate!

To celebrate, I made this card with his school colors.  Using a new set of number dies, star dies and "Happy Graduation" stamps all from My Favorite Things, I came up with this folio card.

BIRTHDAY LATCH CARD

This is always a fun card to make and to send!  It looks difficult to make (to the non-cardmaker) but really is quite simple.

First I chose some coordinating dsp for the different sections and cut them to size.  After adhering them in place, I stamped the saying and the greeting and attached them to the front pieces as shown.  The latch piece was taped down to the inside of the card before the dsp was glued over it.

To position the white piece on the inside, I first used temporary tape to hold it in place on the back of the front rectangle.  Then I added tape to the back and pressed it down onto the inside of the card so that it would be hidden from the front of the card.  Once secured to the inside, I separated it from the front piece and rubbed off  the temporary adhesive.
